Client Profile

The CLIENT is a leading US-based engineering and consulting firm specializing in utility infrastructure and power transmission projects.

To support its growing portfolio of transmission line projects, the CLIENT partnered with InfoTech for large-scale LiDAR classification and engineering data preparation services.

Project Overview

Over the course of multiple projects, InfoTech provided comprehensive LiDAR classification and data preparation support for transmission line corridors across the United States.

Our deliverables were integrated directly into the client's engineering workflows to facilitate transmission tower modeling, sag analysis, and clearance mapping.

InfoTech's Solution

InfoTech assigned a dedicated team of experienced LiDAR specialists to support the CLIENT's production requirements. The team focused on two key phases:

1. Detailed LiDAR Classification
  • Ground points and bare-earth terrain extraction.
  • Low, medium, and high vegetation classification to support danger-tree analysis.
  • Buildings, structures, and utility facilities.
  • Transmission towers and distribution poles.
  • Powerline conductors, shield wires, and sag points.
  • Water bodies and hydrological features.
  • Filtering noise and sensor artifacts to clean the point cloud.
2. Engineering Data Preparation
  • Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and terrain surface generation.
  • Feature extraction of critical structures and crossing assets.
  • Utility corridor data preparation formatted specifically for PLS-CADD imports.
